The Bomb Guy

The RELLIS Campus, or at least parts of it which might be described as a little off the beaten path, can be an interesting place, particularly when the work being performed comes under the authority of the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service.

Senior Administrative Assistant Donna Zatopek describes a typical "day in the life" at RELLIS. And it sometimes involves "unexploded ordinance," one of the many functions TEEX performs in training law-enforcement officials to do their jobs better...and safer.

Donna Zatopek is the Senior Administrative Coordinator for the Infrastructure Training and Safety Institute division of TEEX, headquartered at the RELLIS Campus. Prior to joining TEEX in 2006, Donna worked for 20 years at a family-owned and operated building-products company in Houston. She calls her first day at work at what was then called the Riverside Campus, a “culture shock”. After mastering the challenge of finding the campus, she was surprised to realize she was working in a building surrounded by cow and horse pastures. After making the best of her first week of worth at the former Bryan Air Force Base, Donna was eventually promoted to Senior Administrative Coordinator for her entire division in 2012.
